How often can we remember the exact moment when life takes a huge turn for us? The closest that I can recollect are the moments spent in seeing the landscape around the site after taking this picture. While William Kent is supposed to have "leap'd across the fence and saw all nature to be a landskip", my first epiphany came through a camera viewfinder while doing scale models of to-be-built tensile structures; a subject which I had only theoretically and appreciatively explored till then .
The model is of a design for a classroom module using tensile membranes for an "ecofriendly" school. The plan is a simple 9 point membrane with a central peak supported on a suspended strut. The membrane design mirrors on two sides of a "built" unit.
Sadly for me and thankfully for the site, the project involving some big names, did not see the light of the day. But it reinforced some directions in two fresh architecture graduates' lives . The other graduate is Aalok D.
